
Saumya Pande is a Design Pedagogue and Textile Researcher , educator and textile researcher whose practice seamlessly blends textiles, fashion and visual arts. For over 25 years, her design work has been rooted in the principles of slow living and cultural preservation, consistently pushing the boundaries of form and materiality.
Her current research, culminating in two books, is a deep design investigation into the intricate Kheta quilts of the Shershabadi community and the weaving traditions of Kerala’s Devang weavers, exploring themes of memory, identity, and cultural legacy.
Pande holds a Master of Arts in Fashion & Textiles from Nottingham Trent University, UK. She is the co-founder of the Zameen Astar Foundation, where she designs and develops products that create sustainable livelihoods for women artisans. As part of Indian design education, she has designed curriculaand led the founding teams of fashion design departments at national institutions like NIFT and IIAD.
Her design collections, curated exhibitions and textile installations have been shown internationally at venues including the Basilica of Santa Croce in Florence (2015), the Metropolitan Museum in Manila and the National Handicrafts Museum in New Delhi (2022)
